Hi everyone
I’d like to suggest members read or re-read the posts related to a review of our membership process. This started on the 25 February with an invitation to a community meeting which included a draft agenda. We held the meeting on the 9 March and minutes were posted. On the 24 March a link was posted to a Diana Leafe Christian podcast. On the 4 May I posted some thoughts and a summary of DLC research on joining an intentional community. It also included a comparison table of our current practice, comments from the CM held on the 9 March and recommendations from DLC research. Further suggestions were posted on the 14 July. After the August GM a group of interested members stayed after the meeting to brainstorm further ideas to improve our current practice. At the August GM members voted to post Membership application questionnaires on the webpage. To suggest these draft proposals are the views of a group of unknown members is not true. The proposals are a reflectIon of broad community discussion that has been occurring since February. We are a group of interested members who are dedicating time and effort to help the community work towards improving our current practice. Please keep posting your thoughts and comments.
As Denise has noted, all membership review meetings have been open to the community since February. Work to summarise and refine the community brainstorming sessions have been done in smaller groups. Special Thanks to Denise, for volunteering long hours so we can have neat documents to continue the discussion with. Nothing is set in stone, so please continue to contribute. Membership issues affect us all. Cheers, Trinh
Obviously i meant to put 12th SEPTEMBER as a suggested date for open discussion on membership policy with all members welcome to attend.
(This gives members more than 2 weeks notice of meeting, rather than 3 days.)
Yes, lets keep the discussion open to all. As some have requested more time, this Saturday’s meeting will be postponed to the September GM where it will be on the agenda as the continuing business arising item. The Chair can allocate however much time to the discussion of the proposals. Any further membership discussion meeting dates can be organised then by the whole meeting. Thanks for all the thoughts and comments.
I think to arrange this meeting and notify members giving only 3 days notice is a tad hasty, and not very inclusive.
Given that this is an important issue, and that we welcome all members input, I would like to suggest that we re schedule this open discussion meeting regarding our membership policy.
If we make this meeting on Saturday 12th August, then that gives members an appropriate time and notice, and the possibility for more people to be present.
I think that open discussion, and more ideas can only be good, and definitely better than less. The draft proposals outlined here are the ideas coming from a small group of unknown people.
Its important for our community that a broad range of views are taken into account. Lets keep this an open discussion + make sure that all views are equally heard and represented.
My 2c. I do like all the suggestions given here.
Goolawah needs (IMHO), to have a higher level of commitment to join. Rather than just a ‘tick a box’ mentality.
I won’t be able to be at the meeting, sorry, but very much think we should include a credit check. This simple step would avoid people who come escaping debts, and avoid financial commitments.

second that … not sure what our ability to access credit/debt levels of potential members though??
