Preparing 2019/20 Co-op Finance Budget
Following the recent finance meeting, Directors would like to get input from members to prepare the Co-op revenue & expenditure budget for next year:
“All members are invited to come forward to present any and all ideas for community projects they would like to see funded. We realize that at this point this may look more like a ‘wish list’, but why not consider all ideas? We, as a community, can prioritize as funds become available. Please contact one of the Directors if you have a project you would like considered: Roads, Machinery – Kevin; Water (Flood Warden), Social Events – Craig; Working Bees, DAs – Dan; Policy, Complaints, Media, Newsletter – Cindee; Flora and Fauna, Land Care, Pig Control, Fire – Dave; Camp Kitchen, Membership – Trinh. If your project does not fall in these categories, please call one of us and we will figure out who is best suited to help you. As the budget needs to be formulated within the next few months, we ask that you present your idea/s by the end of May. Happy brainstorming!”

Goolawah Gazette Online Survey
Printing of the Gazette will be more expensive since our ‘in house solution’ with Ralph’s equipment isn’t working anymore (see April meeting minutes).
Purchasing a new laser colour printer was considered very expensive and may not be necessary for Co-op needs.
The April meeting decided (10 to 2, abstentions don’t count) the following:
– stop printing the Gazette in colour ($700 for 50 double sided 14p copies)
– print Gazette in black and white instead for a marginal cost ($112 for 50 x 14 pages)
The Gazette will – as always – be available in colour on the website. Member can always print a colour copy at their leisure (eg. at Office Works).
Nevertheless the decision was deferred to the May meeting to include more voices and visions ….
So to give everyone a chance to provide some input about this treasured tradition the following survey is open for your use.
Please participate if you’re a Gazette reader and would like to have a say. (You can tick more than one box)
FYI
+ the survey will just give us an idea – it’s not a formal Goolawah vote and the results will be brought to a meeting
+ the online survey will expire in one week
+ only one vote per membership
+ Please let Frank and others without www know about it and help them participate

Frog Hollow Road Fire Break
The Fire Squad met this week to discuss possible use of the forrest mulcher working on the Yancoal property mentioned at last Saturday’s general meeting. The opportunity to use the machine was only communicated by Hunter Valley Operations at the end of last week and the squad could not meet beforehand.
Due to the short time frame available the squad put a proposal to directors, who approved extra funding under their delegation and for the clearing work to proceed next week along Frog Hollow Road, to improve the fire break in the middle section.
The mulcher will be taking down the line of mainly paper barks on the south side out to the water channel where possible – in the section below the ‘hill’ going eastwards.
During the big fire in December 2017 this boundary was defended by numerous RFS units to prevent it spreading across the road to our northern sector, and subsequently designated for fire break improvement.
A phone tree message will be sent when the contractor work day is set next week.
Bee Management Plan Proposal
Discussion about European bee keeping on the Co-op is recorded in general meeting minutes for January, February and April, and give you some background.
At the last meeting Trinh presented a Goolie Bee Club proposed management plan for consideration by the community. The meeting requested that it be posted online, and available for comments.
So, use Leave a comment below if you wish. Comments will be moderated if necessary, so please remain respectful (and not too long), but otherwise they will be there for everybody to read.
