The April General Meeting approved the following Delegation Manual for Directors & Office Holders of Goolawah Co-operative. It sets out the functions, approval processes and financial implications of their decision-making roles in accordance with the Rules & By-Laws.
Worm Farm
Goolawah is getting its own worm farm, next Monday 18 May. An expert will be introducing and establishing the set-up at the Camp Kitchen from 10.00 am. Come along to see how the worm turns and learn all about it. Everyone welcome.
Red Hill Fire Shelter
Goolawah’s DA consent conditions require construction of a fire shelter at Red Hill, which could also serve as a multi-purpose community building. At the last meeting a proposed design for the building was circulated and discussed – plan details are below.
Tracks & Landmarks
Anne W circulated this track and landmark names map at the last Community Meeting seeking suggestions for naming the remaining tracks and landmarks within the Co-op.
So be inspired and send your suggestions to Anne or leave them here. They will be voted on at the June meeting. If you want something named after you or your favourite politician, be prepared for close scrutiny!
Community Meeting May 2015
The minutes and treasurer’s report for the May meeting are below:
Flood Monitor – Maria River
Roger has provided the following info and comment about the water level height gauge on Maria River, which may help with your assessment of road flood risk and conditions.
“If the height gets over 1 metre at high tide, then the water backs up to or over Maria River Rd. The gauge is located near the Hastings River junction I think? In the last big flood 18 months ago the water reached 2 metres which covered the mail boxes at Illa Langi”.
Mosquito Coast
A Radio National program, ‘Living in the Bite Zone’, about mosquitoes and Ross River fever spreading south along the NSW coast may be of interest. Particularly the study of rainwater tanks as a breeding place even in the cooler months, and the need for careful attention to screen/seal them. A vaccine has been developed and is waiting for commercial production.
Hastings River Ferry
Hastings Council is planning to hike the full rate ferry charge from $3.30 to $5, which is almost a 50% increase. As non-residents of the shire most of us already have to cop on the chin, or more accurately, in our wallets, that we don’t benefit from local resident concessions. The latter can equate to 80c per ride.
The Council is inviting community consultation about their proposed restructure of ferry fees, so we have a chance to register our objections. Undoubtedly Goolawah Co-op is not even on that Council’s radar. But as a low cost rural land sharing venture we are in need of special consideration for falling outside their administrative bailiwick. And as frequent users of this vital transport link for our town affairs and supply needs in Port.
The attached Council info sheet explains how we can lodge our comments, and there is a community meeting at North Shore Fire Station from 6.30 pm on April 20. We should attend in force to make our little-known voice heard, and also make written submissions to record it.
