It’s great to see policy being reviewed and discussed. This issue was discussed at length when the docs were last reviewed, and the following was included in policy to avoid the hurtful outcome of a no vote after months of a PM getting to know the community.
Membership Process
Step one
C. The questionnaire is posted on the Member’s Section of the website and DISCUSSED at the next GM. A Special General Meeting may be called to hold the discussion. A 2/3 majority vote may be required to proceed to d.
d. The Guide will then let the PM know if they should proceed with completing a National Crime Check, an Identity Check and providing three referees.
Step Three
b. Guides lead a review of the Membership Application at a General Meeting WITHOUT the PM present.
For the Membership Application to match the policy wording, Part B a. Should read “your questionnaire WILL be discussed”, and then the guide can give specific feedback to the applicant. Should we vote at this stage to proceed? It currently says “may require 2/3 majority vote to proceed with the application”. A possible vote along with meeting comments would help the applicant to gauge community sentiment and decide if they wish to proceed.
