Nature Observations at Goolawah
Goolawah has such a diversity of flora and fauna, that it’s possible we share the land with some rare and endangered species. To help build a picture of our natural environment and complement our wildlife camera recordings, the GECO team is inviting members to also record their sightings and observations.
To enter your spotting info, please click here to access a simple, shared access spreadsheet, which is self-explanatory. It’s also available under the ‘Forms’ drop down tab on this page above.
Note: unfortunately the Google survey doc is not compatible with phone use, so computer access is required.
Collaborative Home Ownership Survey
The Co-op received a message from Swinburne University of Technology inviting any interested members to take part in their survey of Collaborative Home Ownership – the invitation is attached, with relevant details:

Research Visit by Savannah Fishel
On December 17 the Co-op was visited by Savannah Fishel from the UK. She was travelling on a Churchill Fellowship to research intentional communities in Australia and elsewhere.
Her travelling blog was updated with this report of her Goolawah visit and the Q & A session with members held at the Camp Kitchen.
Social Calendar G-25
As explained at the recent AGM, our social team is planning a 12 month celebration of the Co-op’s foundation, starting now and culminating in the Co-op’s 25th anniversary in August next year. The central idea is to get members involved in organising individual events themselves.
Hopefully the draft schedule below will prompt members to volunteer to lead events – it shows those with an event organiser already committed to producing it, and those at the ‘idea’ stage until someone steps up. For example: Laz will organise monthly community dinners from Aug 2024 through Sep 2025; Alicia, Tanya & Trinh have events planned with exact dates to be set.
Please contact Laz or Trinh with an outline of your event idea, if you want it on the schedule. The updated calendar will then be shared monthly with members. Event holders will in due course communicate with the community regarding their event with the final details.
Mental Health First Aid – Training 27/28 Nov 2023
After our Mind Your Mates Sessions in July, Lifeline has scheduled a two day Mental Health First Aid training for us at the Co-op on 27-28 November. It’s free of charge for members and friends and will be held at Camp Kitchen.
The session aims to to improve knowledge of mental illnesses, their treatments, appropriate first aid strategies, and confidence in providing first aid to individuals with mental illness.
For details and registration (necessary for info on group size and catering) please click on the flyer attached.
Bush Art Project
Tania and team have prepared a project plan for bush art and installations, to be discussed at the upcoming AGM if time permits:
Maria River Road Community Dinner – 17 Mar 2023
As previously advised, KSC is providing a dinner at the Co-op for a wider community gathering of Maria River Road neighbours, with RFS, Lifeline and Council staff in attendance, to try and build resilience and support networks around adverse weather events and other community challenges.
The invitation is below, and Denise is coordinating RSVPs for Goolawah members, so please SMS her on 0448 876 841 with your acceptance and any dietary requirements by WED 08 MARCH, so that she can advise the caterers accordingly.
