Maria River Road – Council update
Happy Xmas!
Kempsey Council has issued the Certificate of Practical Completion for the newly sealed section of Nevertire Road. The final step is inspection of the road after the maintenance period which finishes on 20 June, at which point Council will be responsible for maintenance of that section of the road.
Arnway, our contractors, commenced construction of the road on Tuesday 14 Nov 2023. The expected completion date is 8 December 2023, providing there are no hold ups or rain.
Additional work is required on sections that needed widening, eg. passing bays and where the road has been straightened because of deep top soil. Council have been engaged to inspect the additions which may add a few days to the schedule.
Please try to avoid using Nevertire during construction.
Craig Singleman is our liaison with neighbours, the contractor and Goolawah. If you have any questions please direct them to either Craig or myself.
(Wayne S.)
The Co-op team (Wayne S, Craig, Clint & John) held a meeting on Thursday 03 August with Wayne Arndell (road contractor), Ian Slapp and Justin Chapman (AS Engineering) regarding our Nevertire Road Stage 1 Construction Tender.
The meeting went well, with our Engineers walking through the contract in detail to ensure Wayne Arndell was aware of all requirements and to obtain further clarification on costs.
Wayne Arndell was confident that he could complete the project. His start date should be mid October, depending on progress of his current commitments and our job would take approximately two weeks.
He was also interested in providing other road services and consider future works on stage 2.
AS Engineering will prepare the contract for signing once some minor details are sorted with Wayne A.
In the meantime we will start on some of our actions including:
Cooperative members are reminded that all liaison with contractors and road workers is via the NT Stage 1 Road Committee. If you have any issues please bring these directly to the liaison team (Wayne Skinner and Craig Singleman), do not discuss with the workers on site.
Good news is that Council has removed the requirement for a bond and reduced the road maintenance period to 6 months. Revised s138 approval is attached below.
Any questions please feel free to speak to a member of the board or NT Stage 1 road committee.
