The KSC letter below advises their planned inspections of our Onsite Sewage Management systems, apparently starting a week ago (on their letter date!):

Compost Toilets
Goolawah ‘dinner parties’ inevitably get round to discussing compost toilets, and questions about our relevant rules and approved practice arise, so here’s an extract from our By-Laws as a reminder:
5. No pit toilets are to be dug on Goolawah.
6. Before any development takes place on individual sites, there needs to be access to a dry composting style toilet, either individually or on a hamlet basis. Functioning “home built/designs” are acceptable.
7. Before any development takes place on individual sites, a Council approved grey water system should be developed for the site. This includes the use of biodegradable, phosphate free detergents and soaps etc.
Tree Felling on Member Lots
The flow chart of member actions prior to tree felling on member lots was endorsed at the Feb 2017 community meeting: goolawah-tree-felling-on-member-lots
Kempsey Council requirements: KSC clearing of trees or vegetation
KSC Development Compliance Audit
As notified by Secretary Ralph (sms 05 Jan) Council is planning to visit the Co-op in the week commencing Jan 23 to conduct an audit of development consent compliance of individual sites
Lyn Kingma and Les Pawlak will be attending. Their letter is attached for your information. Affected members should note the invitation to contact them beforehand if they have any concerns.

Greywater System Trench
The following info may be useful for Goolawah owner/builders – it was supplied by Jack Dickey, Environmental Officer at Kempsey Council, as it’s not contained on Council’s website.
The trench diagram details construction requirements. Dickey mentioned that a one bedroom dwelling must have a 10m long trench, and a grease trap between the dwelling and the trench.
Although it shows perforated pipe, plastic RELN mounds have also been successfully used.
Council on to Member DAs
Kempsey Council is threatening to tighten up on compliance with individual development applications, consent conditions and even impose fines, as explained in this circular being sent to members this week:
